In 1934, after working as a secretary at Newcomb-Macklin (the American granddaddy of finished corner frames, established 1871), Ervin A. Husar, Sr. decided to set out on his own. Harnessing his bold, entrepreneurial spirit, he set up shop right across the alley from his competitor. Decades after Newcomb-Macklin sold their company, Ervin Sr.'s brave new venture remains a Chicago institution.
